I need your help with something today ...
The effort to clean up/rebuild Western North Carolina is going to be a marathon. Gathering a team of people to sustain the healing is the only way to keep it going.
In October, I released “Carolina”… and the response has been really encouraging. Super cool to videos of you jamming out in your cars, etc. I appreciate it!
In December, the full album will be available for streaming. I’ll tell you the name of the album soon… maybe show you the cover. (The vinyl records will be for sale around that time and will be delivered/available around mid-January hopefully).
But that’s not why I’m writing you…
If you’ve not turned on the news or tv in the past month, Western North Carolina was absolutely devastated by Hurricane Helene. The breadth of the destruction is more than anyone can comprehend.
It really is bad.
Still.
In the midst of all of this, and because of the online response to the single “Carolina,” I decided to launch a new effort called Committed to Carolina.
Here’s the problem: THE QUICK FADE
We are in the middle of an era of short-attention spans. It’s just reality.
When something awful happens, there is usually a big up-front push for support. Photos and videos pull the heart-strings and we give to immediate needs.
However, after weeks or months funding tends to dramatically decrease. We forget. Something else happens. Victims are often left alone and without a team backing them. We want to support the hurting people, but real-life happens …
And with Western North Carolina, that will happen soon….
We will forget.
Did you know there is an election this week? I got a text message about it ;-)
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the new year are all coming quickly….
Unless we make a commitment to sustain WNC’s giving, we will forget.
Committed to Carolina is a simple idea to put together a dedicated team of 10,000 people that will commit to give $5 per month to Western North Carolina relief efforts for the next three years (36 months) on the first of every month. (The monthly gifts will be to any organization or person you choose.)
So if you are doing the math:
If we got 100 people to sign the commitment… that would be $18,000 pledged.
1,000 people committed? $180,000
10,000 people? An insane $1.8 million dollars.
THAT’S A LOT.
I think it’s a really cool idea, but it can’t be accomplished without you.
So here’s my favor that I need to ask you:
Would you be willing to sign the Commitment to Carolina?
Would you be willing to share it with three friends and ask them to sign it, as well?
I have set up a simple website and email system to send out monthly reminder emails, and I’ve set up an Instagram account that you can keep up with ways to give.
You can even purchase one of these Cardinal Rising stickers, as well.
Follow Committed to Carolina on Instagram.
Thanks for reading this long ask of an email, but it’s important… especially as the world keeps turning… to remember the important things.
Let’s build a team to help continue Western North Carolina’s healing.
Hope to hear from each of you soon.
Evan
